Juan Dolio is on the south eastern coast of the Dominican Republic mid-way between Santo Domingo international airport, Las Americas (SDQ), and San Pedro De Marcoris. It is a quite town with lots of resorts along the coast. While not a party hearty place, it has an active night-life with activities at many of the resorts and casino and the local discos what play salsa and meringue music. Juan Dolio is a long, about 7 miles, and narrow town along the coast. It has two major east west roads, the route 3 highway that runs from Santo Domingo to San Pedro De Marcoris to La Romana and the local road that parallels the beach and provides access to all the beach front properties and resorts. This local road has lots of large speed bumps to keep the traffic at a very leisurely pace. There are many excursions and bus tours that leave the area hotels and resorts that make ideal outings.

There is plenty of things to do locally in the Juan Dolio area and tours that will take you to other interesting places about the Island. 

Shopping

The Dominican Republic, with its good exchange rate, is a popular destination for shoppers. Hand-wrapped cigars are one prized purchase. Amber is another popular souvenir. Tree sap compressed for millions of years often containing fossils of living creatures, amber ranges in color from pale yellow to dark gold and, more rarely, blue and green.

In local markets you'll find coffee, local produce, plus amber items, straw products, wood carvings and an amazing array of other tempting crafts. Be prepared to haggle! Inexpensive Haitian-style art is also widely available from street vendors.

A word of caution. There are street vendors everywhere that sell all kinds of crafts and jewelry, but there are no guarantees on the quality or authenticity of the products. If you want amber I would recommend getting it from a reputable store in Santo Domingo or another large city. If you get it from a street vendor you are almost certainly purchasing plastic.

Restaurants

Juan Dolio offers many local restaurants that have excellent menus and reasonable prices. Many are family owned and rarely crowded. Typical hours are Monday through Sunday 11am-2pm and 7pm-1am. Actual hours may vary. Also most all of the hotels also have restaurants that are open to the public.

Hotels/Resorts/Casinos

Juan Dolio is the popular destination on the south-eastern coast. What was once a little village with a palm-laced beach is fastly becoming a Caribbean Riviera. Metro, Coral Costa Caribe, Sun Village Costa Linda, Capella and Meliá Juan Dolio are among the resort properties that fringe the coast line. The area enjoys a complete infrastructure, and is easily accessible from both the capital and Las Americas International Airport. Juan Dolio is especially proud of Metro Country Club’s Los Marlins Golf Course, designed by Charles Ankrom, an award winning international golf course architect. The 18 hole, par 72 golf course offers multiple tees to challenge golfers of all levels. The natural beauty of the site, the artistic landscaping and design, excellent practice facilities and the attractive clubhouse and Pro shop, make Los Marlins a highlight of a golfing vacation.

Also on the South coast in the resort town of Juan Dolio is the Metro Country Club, which opened in 1995, and features the 18-hole, par 72 "Los Marlins" course. Los Marlins was designed by the award-winning, internationally-acclaimed golf course architect, Charles Ankrom. The new resort/residential golf community, advertised in Golf Digest, Golf Magazine, and Travel & Leisure, is now host to the annual Juan Marichal Celebrity Charity Golf Classic. This charity event is held every December, and lures the participation of baseball All-Stars and PGA golf celebrities.

Metro Country Club is also the Caribbean's location of Paul Dionne's International Academy of Golf, which is headquartered in Las Vegas. This academy employs golf professionals to instruct both beginners and advanced players. Metro is located adjacent to many of the first-class hotels and resorts in the Juan Dolio area.

These hotels, along with several resorts in nearby Boca Chica, offer all-inclusive golf packages to the Metro Club. One such resort is the Coral Costa Caribe Beach Hotel, which has three and seven night packages. The packages include lodging, all meals and drinks, a complete daytime activity program and 2 rounds of golf for a three night stay or 4 rounds for a seven night stay. Use of the driving range and bucket of balls are also included. The Coral Hamaca Beach Hotel in Boca Chica offers similar packages with golf played at the Metro Club.
